Huskies Head for Rose Bowl

A commanding Washington football team ended its 2000 season with a victory over Washington State Nov. 18 in Pullman, clinching its first trip to the Rose Bowl since 1993.

The 10-1 Huskies are scheduled to meet the Big Ten champions, the Purdue Boilermakers, in the 87th Rose Bowl Game, held at 2 p.m. Pacific time on New Year's Day in Pasadena, Calif. ABC will broadcast the game.

As Columns went to press in mid-November, there was still an outside chance that losses by Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma or Miami could put the Huskies into the national championship Orange Bowl contest instead, held Jan. 3 in Miami. A final decision on the Orange Bowl contestants will be made Dec. 3.

If the Huskies go to the Rose Bowl, a pre-game Washington Warm Up rally will start three hours prior to kickoff at the Brookside Country Club, located west of the stadium. Admission includes music and game souvenirs; food, beverages and Husky merchandise will be available for purchase. A Husky New Year's Eve event is also being planned for the Los Angeles area, time and place to be announced. If the team goes to the Orange Bowl, similar events will be held in the Miami area. For the latest information on pre-game events, call (206) 543-3839 or visit the UW Alumni Web site at .

As a service to alumni and fans, there is a UW bowl game package offered in cooperation with Intercollegiate Athletics. The package includes transportation from Seattle, lodging and admission to pre-game events. For more information, call (425) 747-8277.
