The opponent will be a team from the Big 12 Conference. As Columns went to press in late November, several schools were in contention, including UW Football Coach Rick Neuheisel's former team, the University of Colorado Buffaloes. The game will be broadcast on ESPN TV and the Husky Radio Network. [Online update: after Columns went to press, UW's Holiday Bowl opponent was revealed to be the University of Texas Longhorns.]

This is the 24th year for the Holiday Bowl, and it will be the Huskies' third appearance in the San Diego classic. Neuheisel has been a factor in both previous contests. In 1999, Neuheisel's first year as UW coach, Washington lost to Kansas State 24-20. In 1996, the Huskies faced a Colorado team coached by Neuheisel and lost 33-21.

The UW Alumni Association will hold two events for alumni and fans attending the Holiday Bowl. Starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, a Husky Pep Rally will be held at the San Diego Concourse, 202 C Street, in downtown San Diego. The party features a nearly hour-long, special performance by the Husky Marching Band and Cheer Squad. Husky merchandise will be available for purchase. The cost is $25 UWAA members, $30 general and $20 children 4-12, and the price includes light hors d'oeuvres and dessert.

On game day the alumni association will hold a Washington Warm Up starting at 2 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to Qualcomm Stadium. Admission will cover an all-you-can-eat barbecue, including beverages. The cost is $30 UWAA members, $35 general and $20 children 4-12.

Space is limited at both events. Advance registration is required for both the Dec. 27 Husky Pep Rally and the Dec. 28 Washington Warm Up. To guarantee space, make your reservation by Dec. 20. Call (206) 543-3839 or visit the UWAA Holiday Bowl Web site. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door, but prices will be $10 higher.

For game ticket information call the Husky Ticket Office at (206) 543-2200 or go to the UW athletics Web site.

Look for event updates—and locations of TV viewing parties for alumni across the U.S.—on the UWAA Holiday Bowl Web site.
