Alumni Volunteers and Groups Honored, Nominations Sought for UW Awards

The University of Washington Alumni Association has unveiled a new awards program to honor the volunteers, events, clubs and chapters whose work has made a significant difference to the University of Washington.

The UWAA's first Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, held Sept. 5 at Seahawks Stadium in Seattle, honored a wide range of volunteers and programs that have served alumni and the University.

The most prestigious award went to Lee Gibbon, '77, who has served more than 10 years on the UW Alumni Association's Board of Trustees as well as serving as the longtime leader of the Spokane Alumni Chapter. He was named the UWAA's Volunteer of the Year.

He currently serves as the UWAA's In-State Geographic Council leader and has been actively involved recruiting new regional volunteers.

In his honor, the UWAA donated $1,000 to the Spokane Alumni Chapter scholarship fund.
