Alumni Volunteers Honored, Nominations Sought for UW Awards

Paul Rucker, '95, '02, who served as chair of the UW Alumni Association's House Committee and was instrumental in helping guide alumni relations strategic visions and programs, was named the UWAA's 2002-03 Volunteer of the Year at the association's second annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner Sept. 5.

Rucker, who is in the second year of a three-year term on the UWAA Board of Trustees, was honored for his leadership, particularly in the areas of scholarship fund-raising, the student experience, career resources and online services. He also initiated and led a focus group to discuss specific programs and communications which would help the UWAA reach alumni communities of color.

Other awards announced at the volunteer banquet were: Husky Career Advantage Award to Nicey Hilton, '90; Helping Hand Award to Frank Irigon, '76, '79; and the Special Achievement Award to the Coaches Tour program.

Meanwhile, the UW and UWAA invite nominations for these 2004 university-wide awards: Alumnus Summa Laude Dignatus: Presented to a former student who has achieved national or international prominence in his or her work. Distinguished Teaching and Excellence in Teaching Awards: These awards recognize outstanding UW educators. The Distinguished Teaching Award is for faculty; the Excellence in Teaching Award is for teaching assistants. S. Sterling Munro Public Service Teaching Award: Presented to a faculty member who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in community-based instruction.
