The lecture series explores the decade of the 1930s, when the U.S. was reeling from the most devastating financial collapse in its history. That decade also saw the rise to power of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was elected to the first of his four terms as president in 1932, the launch of Nazi aggression in Europe, and Japan's war with China as it strived to take over Asia, setting the stage for World War II.
Bridgman, winner of a UW Distinguished Teaching Award, previously covered World War Two in a five-year lecture series that sold out many dates. High demand is also expected for his coverage of the Depression and the rise of dictatorships.
The six lectures will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 17 to Feb. 21, 1996, in 120 Kane. The cost for an individual lecture ticket is $6 UWAA members, faculty and staff; $8 non-members; and $3 students.
