FACULTY
Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Ross Allen Beaumont died Sept. 28, 1996, after serving the UW for 45 years. A specialist in modern algebra, he wrote three advanced math textbooks and supervised 12 doctoral theses. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Univ. of Michigan and his doctorate from the Univ. of Illinois. He was known for his jokes, his billiard game and his love for his garden at his Whidbey Island home. He was 82 when he died after a short battle with lung cancer.
