Hazel Cain Briggs, '37, St. Augustine, Fla., retired from the U.S. Foreign Service in 1966 after serving as U.S. consul in several countries, including Iceland and Hong Kong. She moved to Florida in 1972 and worked as a travel agent. She is now retired.
Doris Turnure Tonning, '39, Seattle, has been meeting regularly with five other UW alumnae for more than 70 years. In addition to her, the other active members of Beta Gamma Sigma, the economics and business honorary, who meet are Suzanne Scholl Goodge, '24; May Fitzpatrick Freeman, '27; Ellen Clarke Sperry, '30; Evelyn Thostesen Borgersen, '36; and Elizabeth Dearle, '36.
Robert Whitebrook, '39, '52, Lake San Marcos, Calif., received the Washington State Centennial Award for distinguished histories of the Pacific Northwest. His fifth book, Measure of Men, was accepted by Universal Studios for development as a possible motion picture script.

In 1933, the Alumni Association sold copies of a record featuring George Bailey playing the old UW chimes. The reunion committee for the classes of 1944, 1945 and 1946 is trying to locate a copy in connection with their fall reunion. Ray Clough, '42, Sunriver, Ore., received a National Medal of Science at the White House on Dec. 18, 1994, for developing tools used by engineers to analyze and design structures that can withstand earthquakes. He retired from the Cal-Berkeley College of Engineering in 1987.
Joseph Hasson, '43, Rockville, Md., is a retired professor of economics at George Mason Univ. He has been married for 51 years, and has three children and two grandchildren.
Eugene (Spike) Raymond, '44, Kent, retired from Boeing in 1988 and wrote the book Aircraft Flight Control Actuation System Design.

John Corbally, '47, '50, Mill Creek, received the UW College of Arts and Sciences' Distinguished Achievement Award. He served as the president of Syracuse Univ. and the Univ. of Illinois and was president and director of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He was named the UWAA's Alumnus Summa Laude Dignatus in 1988.
Robert P. Kraft, '47, '49, Aptos, Calif., received the UW College of Arts and Sciences' Distinguished Achievement Award. He served as director of the Lick Observatory--the nation's oldest mountaintop observatory--for 17 years and was director of the Univ. of California Observatories for three years. He's a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Guy Harper, '50, Seattle, and several other former rowers have formed a competitive master rowing group called the Ancient Mariners. Robert Brine, '56, '57, Mill Creek, has been selected national president of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. He is a Seattle businessman.
Robert Vieira, '56, Kailua, Hawaii, and his wife, Carol, announce the arrival of daughter Kimberly Carol on July 19, 1993. He is materials manager of the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific.
Stan Pasin, '58, Issaquah, retired last year after 37 years with the U.S. Forest Service. He works part time for the City of Seattle at the Cedar River Watershed and is on the board of directors of the environmental organization "10 Million Salmon."
George Shine, '60, Springfield, Ore., recently retired from teaching college. He was president of the UW chapters of both Chi Phi fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi and is trying to contact members of either organization from that time.
Anita Roy Johnson, '61, San Diego, Calif., is the reinsurance accountant for the Insurance Co. of the West. She has been with that firm for 15 years.
Thomas Faragher, '63, Napa, Calif., left Truckee River Bank to open up a consulting practice. He works with banks on Small Business Administration lending, strategic planning, executive search and credit review.
Susan Byington, '65, Seattle, is the vice president of human resources for the Sisters of Providence Health System.
Joseph Monks, '65, '67, Spokane, was named the 1994 Washington Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation. He is a professor of operations management at Gonzaga Univ. and author of Operations Management: Theory and Problems, a textbook translated into several languages and used by more than 250 colleges and universities. He is also the director of Adopt-a-Family, a program he started in 1985 for the Mayan Indians in Guatemala. The program helps families and communities obtain training and resources to become self-sufficient.
Mavis Amundson, '67, Auburn, edited the book Sturdy Folk, published by Western Gull Publishing. The book is a collection of personal accounts written by older residents of the Olympic Peninsula.
Charles Schluter, '67, Seattle, is vice president, national accounts, for Aetna Health Plans, serving the Pacific Northwest and Alaska region. He has been with Aetna for 28 years.
Capt. Gary L. Brown, '68, '71, Seattle, retired from active duty after 26 years of service with the Navy. His last assignment was with the Naval Reserve Readiness Command in Seattle.
Carol Gabriel Woodward, '69, Cottage Grove, Minn., is a children's librarian at the Southdale Area Library in suburban Minneapolis.

Gaylord Reagan, '70, '71, Bellevue, Neb., is the site coordinator for Central Michigan Univ.'s continuing education program at Offutt Air Force Base, where he also teaches graduate-level management courses. He also teaches at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Carol Anita Ryan, '70, Seattle, planned to leave in April for a sailing trip around the world. Her first leg was from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to the Marquisas in the South Pacific.
Charles Angell, '72, Seattle, recently returned to Seattle after 7 1/2 years in the South and Southeast Asia. He is now developing aquaculture businesses in Mexico.
Cmdr. Michael Daling, '72, New York City, retired from the Navy after 22 years of service, most recently at the Trident facility in Silverdale.
C.J. Wyckoff, '72, '77, Issaquah, had her novel Glass Ceiling published in March.
Joanne Goodwin, '73, Las Vegas, Nev., received an American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship for 1995-96, and a National Endowment for the Humanities summer research stipend. Both grants will support research for her manuscript, Gender and the Politics of Welfare Reform. She received her Ph.D. from the Univ. of Michigan in 1991 and is an assistant professor at the Univ. of Nevada, Las Vegas.
John Moring, '73, Bangor, Me., had his book Arthur Hill: Western Actor, Miner, and Law Officer published by Sunflower Univ. Press of Kansas.
Richard T. Kennedy, '76, Des Moines, Wash., and his wife, Heidi Morgan, '77, announce the birth of their daughter, Marianna, on Feb. 24, 1995. He is the mayor of Des Moines.
Lana Abbey, '76, Las Vegas, Nev., runs a desktop publishing firm, Paradise Valley Publications. Her firm specializes in books and brochures relating to Hawaii.
Che-Ho Wei, '76, Hsin Chu, Taiwan, is a professor and the dean of research and development at the National Chiao Tung Univ.
Frederick Kesich, '77, Rancho Murieta, Calif., is vice president of the PAC Machine Co. He and his wife, Robin Albee-Kesich, '84, have two sons, Anthony, 8, and Stephen, 5.
Mark Nelson, '77, Austin, Texas, was named communications chair of the International Customer Service Assoc. at its annual conference in San Francisco. He is director of customer service for McCaw Cellular Communications.
