UW HITS THE RHODES
Elizabeth Angell, '01, poses with one of her mentors, International Studies Professor Resat Kasaba, days after she learned she was one of this year's 32 Rhodes Scholars. Counting Angell's award, the UW has had a Rhodes Scholar in its last two graduating classes. The 20-year-old Angell, who majored in history and international studies, will continue her studies of Scottish nationalism at Oxford. "This may be a reminder to the Legislature, or to anybody else who tends to discount us just because we're a state school, that we are a fantastic university," she told the press. Deluxe Den Debuts
A mariachi band helps celebrate the grand opening of the new Husky Den in the HUB. After a $9.4 million remodel, the space now features nine food kiosks, each serving a different niche in the student appetite, including two franchises-Subway and Pagliacci Pizza. The seating area now gives students a choice of booths, counters with stools, or regular tables and chairs. "It's a warm, inviting place for students to meet mingle and enjoy their out-of-classroom experience," says Housing and Food Services Assistant Director Dan Farrell. Photo by Mary Levin.
