Vote on Light-Rail Route Coming Soont

The Sound Transit Board will vote at its March or April meeting on the preferred route of a light-rail line linking downtown Seattle to the Northgate area, including the route through the UW campus. Above are five possible lines under consideration. The UW prefers the route on the far right, which includes a station at Husky Stadium and swings away from sensitive research and medical equipment in the southwest portion of campus. The UW also can support the route on the far left, which goes up Brooklyn Avenue N.E. and also skirts research facilities. The board will adopt a final routing decision late this year or in early 2005. Construction on the project, costing anywhere from $1.5 to $2 billion, could begin as early as 2006 with trains running between 2013 and 2015. Map courtesy of Sound Transit.
