UWAA Ranks Among Top 15, Dues Are Now Tax-Deductible

More than 2,000 UW alumni joined the alumni association during its 112th annual membership drive held this spring, bringing its membership total to 51,884. The UWAA ranks among the top 15 member-based alumni groups in the nation. "We had a fantastic response," says Lisa Werner, UWAA membership manager.

Due to changes in tax regulations, UWAA member dues are now tax-deductible contributions, an added incentive to join the organization and support the UW, Werner says.

The association uses dues to help support alumni publications, including Columns, student scholarships, campus activities and alumni outreach through programs such as Husky Career Advantage, lifelong learning opportunities, and alumni clubs and chapters.

In addition to popular member benefits, such as the University Book Store patron discount and checkout privileges at UW libraries, the UWAA has three new benefits for family activities:

  • The Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma gives UWAA members $16 off their Deluxe Household annual membership and $5 off their One Plus One, Household and Grandparent memberships.
  • Seattle's Museum of Flight offers members 10 percent off the Navigator annual membership level and 20 percent off the Aviator, Captain, Barnstormer and Barnstormer Gold membership levels.
  • At the Seattle Art Museum, UWAA members receive 20 percent off the Student through Fellow annual membership levels.

Annual dues for the UW Alumni Association are $45. If you're not currently a member and are interested in joining, visit UWalum.com and apply online, or call 1-800-AUW-ALUM.
