Second Woman Sentenced for Lab Fire

Jennifer Kolar, 34, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison and five years' probation for the May 2001 firebombing of the UW's Center for Urban Horticulture.

Kolar was one of five Earth Liberation Front/Animal Liberation Front members accused of the firebombing. Her underground cell torched the lab based on an erroneous belief that it was using genetic-engineering techniques they thought dangerous to the environment. Samples of rare and endangered species of plants, which were being cultivated for reintroduction to the Cascades, were also destroyed.

In June, 32-year-old Briana Waters was sentenced to six years in jail for her role in the arson.
