1920

Mildred M. Houson, '26, Seattle, taught business subjects for 42 years at Cleveland and Lincoln high schools.

Hazel E. Clark, '27, '28, Everett, is having a limited edition of a history of the Everett Public Library published.

1930

Mary K. Brown, '36, Bellevue, was awarded the Georgina Davis Founders Award from Women in Communications Inc.

Charles W. Rossier, '36, Antioch, Calif., reports that his wife, Gen, died in 1992. They had been married for 45 years. He celebrated his 84th birthday in May. He was in the general insurance business for more than 40 years.

Hazel Cain Briggs, '37, St. Augustine, Fla., celebrated her 80th birthday on March 4. "I am in fairly good health and keep active. What else is new?" she writes.

Robert K. Egge, '37, Medford, Ore., and his wife, Carol, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on April 19.

Grace M. Stevens, '37, Seattle, married Leonard Woodbury Stevens in 1936. He served as UW's director of intramural administration until his retirement in 1973. He died in 1977.

Muriel McCall Auerbach, '38, Bainbridge Island, reports that her son, Gene, '66, has moved to Hong Kong.

1940

Jack R. Altaras, '40, Bellevue, retired after 46 years in the pharmacy business and is enjoying vacationing and golf. He has two granddaughters, Rina and Lindsay.

Dorothy C. Rosenberg, '40, Vancouver, wrote special education books for many years. She also wrote the book Charles Richard Drew --Sprinter in Life.

Thomas R. McBratne, '43, Stockton, Calif., spent 28 years in the Navy and then became athletic equipment manager at the Univ. of the Pacific. He is now a hospital volunteer.

Darrell Eden, '47, Seattle, has been captain of the Crawford Cup Tennis Team, representing the U.S. against teams from around the world for players age 70 and older.

Fred J. Ravens, '47, E. Falmouth, Mass., retired from the Maguire Group, an international engineering organization. His last position was vice president and director of design. He retired to Cape Cod.

Frank Pattison, '47, Medina, and his wife, Harriet, '46, have lived in Medina for 41 years and have 10 grandchildren. He is developing a 12-unit retirement condominium in Madison Park with eight partners.

1950

Don Anderson, '51, Palm Desert, Calif., is a retired assistant treasurer for Farmer's Insurance. His wife, Iris, '50, is a retired high school teacher.

Rod Dimoff, '52, '55, Seattle, and his wife, Olga, attended a 1950s Berlin garrison veterans reunion in Omaha, Neb., in June.

Robert Butler, '53, Pocatello, Idaho, is professor emeritus of anthropology and curator emeritus of archaeology at Idaho State Univ. He returned to school in 1992 and earned two degrees in counseling. He is now a licensed professional counselor.

Peter A. Tuohy, '53, Chehalis, has been a McDonald's franchise owner for 22 years. On July 1, his eldest daughter, Shari, succeeded him. He owns and operates eight restaurants in Grays Harbor and Lewis counties.

Ingrid Tedford, '54, '59, Seattle, runs Ingrid's Gardens and teaches pruning workshops through the ASUW Experimental College.

Neil Carroll, '57, '59, Edmonds, retired in 1995 after 36 years with Texaco in oil exploration. He lives in Edmonds with his wife, Janis.

Richard E. McVeigh, '57, Harlingen, Texas, retired after a career in school administration overseas and in the U.S. He teaches at the Univ. of Texas Pan-American in Edinburg.

Terri Baysinger Malinowski, '58, Woodinville, retired in 1995 after 16 years as communications director for the Northshore School Dist. in Bothell. She was an English teacher in Seattle and editor of the Northshore Citizen.

Svein Gilje, '59, '71, Seattle, was decorated by King Harald V of Norway and named Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. He was honored for his work planning the Puget Sound visit by the King of Norway and Queen Sonja in October 1995.

1960

Robert O. Blank, '60, Okanogan, and his wife, Delores, have four children and five grandchildren. He spent the last 20 years as owner/operator of Blank Orchards.

Marty Dirks, '60, Seattle, retired in January as president of KCM, one of Seattle's largest consulting engineering firms. He was with KCM for 35 years. He and his wife, Ann, raised five sons, two of whom are UW graduates.

Joseph S. Saxon Jr., '60, Seattle, is president of JoHa Co. Inc. and North West Galaxy Inc., which sells magazines and rents videos.

Lloyd H. Furman, '61, Langley, retired in 1992 and moved to his hometown of Langley. He was elected mayor in 1995, following his grandfather, who was Langley's first mayor in 1913.

James B. Hatfield, '61, Seattle, has been a partner in Hatfield & Dawson consulting engineers since 1974. He specializes in calculations of electromagnetic fields at power line and radio frequencies.

Auria E. Aromin Rosenberg, '61, Northbrook, Ill., is chair of the foreign language department of Wendell Phillips Academy in Chicago. His daughter, Deena Rosenberg, is a 1994 UW graduate.

Robert J. Gariepy, '62, '65, Spokane, retired in 1994 from Eastern Washington Univ. as professor of humanities and dean of honors. He owns the Great Scott Pub & Grill in Spokane.

Ronald E. Hart, '62, Palmdale, Calif., retired after working for the Air Force for 21 years at Edwards Air Force Base. He was division chief on the B-2 flight test team.

John Mattson, '62, Everett, has retired after 18 years as an archaeologist for the Chugach National Forest in Alaska.

L. Syrene Forsman , '64, Seattle, retired in 1992 from teaching at Roosevelt High School. He is president of the Swedish Finn Historical Society.

Joseph Ryan, '64, Potomac, Md., was named one of the top 100 business leaders in the U.S. by Irish America magazine.

Thomas R. Boyce, '65, '69, Seattle, is entering his 19th year of private practice in hand surgery. He is a clinical associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the UW School of Medicine.

Don I. Kelts, '65, Bellevue, is president of the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association. His practice is in Bellevue.

Robert W. Langenbach, '65, '70, SeaTac, and his wife, Carole, '66, served as track and field competition officials at the Atlanta Olympics. He retired from Boeing Defense and Space Group in 1995 after almost 25 years.

Rick Rose, '65, Lakeville, Minn., is manager of contracts and purchasing at the National Marrow Donor Program in Minneapolis.

Karl Anderson, '65, '76, Tacoma, received the Pierce County Municipal League's Distinguished Citizen award for 1995.

Darel McMahon, '66, Vancouver, owns his own insurance company and is president of the Clark County Assoc. of Life Underwriters.

Linda Flathers Parsley, '66, Leavenworth, self-published a family history and is working on a book about her hometown of Prescott and the surrounding area. She retired in June after 30 years as an elementary school teacher.

Jeffrey R. Taylor, '66, '68, Haslett, Mich., is executive director of the Michigan Public Health Inst.

Diane Alspach Hagedorn, '68, Seattle, has been an orthopedic nurse at Swedish Hospital for 16 years. She also started the NW Co-Ed Soccer League in 1990 and continues to run the organization.

Ann E. Lenssen, '68, Bothell, is a part-time freelance photographer/writer. Her credits include A Rainbow Balloon, a photo essay book for children.

Robert E. Wintersteen, '68, Aloha, Ore., is divorced and operating a sole proprietorship, Coldstone Enterprises, involved in sales and risk management. His daughter, Victoria, is a UW student.

Brian Roesch, '69, Renton, an attorney in King County for 14 years, specializes in criminal, civil and immigration law. He has one daughter, Sara, attending the UW.

David A. Williams, '69, Espanola, N.M., and his wife, Lu, are still in New Mexico. He is a full-time radiologist at the Los Alamos Medical Center. Their two sons--born at the UW Medical Center--are grown. David is an architect in Albuquerque and Kevin is a doctor in Denver.

1970

Danny M. Fullerton, '70, Powell, Ohio, has been elected to the board of directors of the Columbus, Ohio, Cancer Clinic. He is vice president of agency operations for the Nationwide Insurance Enterprise in Columbus.

Karen M. Kane, '70, '73, '77, Seattle, will be included in the 1997 Who's Who in America.

Gaylord Reagan, '70, '71, Bellevue, Neb., published his latest article, "Managers for the 21st Century," in Pfeiffer & Company's 1997 Annual. He also delivered the commencement address at Central Michigan Univ.'s off-campus site at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha.

Steve Shelton, '70, Edmonds, is chairman of the board of directors of Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Seattle. He is the regional credit manager for Nordstrom.

Carl R. Swenson, '70, '72, Portland, Ore., received a Puget Sound Ancient Mariner award from the Marine Directory and the Seattle Maritime Week Committee for his contributions to the maritime industry. He is a longtime customs broker for steamships coming to Puget Sound.

Mary N. Balcomb, '71, Silverdale, is a painter, etcher, designer and art writer. Her third book is Robin-Robin/A Journal.

Marion Wheeler Burns, '71, Sequim, is a cashier at Sequim Aquatic Recreation Ctr.

Linda L. Cardenas, '71, Yakima, received her Continuing Educational Staff Associate Certificate. She is a school counselor at Selah Middle School.

Janice R. Ellis, '71, Seattle, and Celia L. Hartley, '65, '68, La Quinta, Calif., are co-authors of Nursing in Today's World: Challenges, Issues and Trends.

Michael J. Goldman, '71, Norfolk, Va., and his wife, Dianne, announce the birth of a daughter, Jennifer Rae, on April 9, 1996.

Praxedes Loya, '71, Riverside, Calif., is the foster parent recruiter for Riverside County. "This is a challenging job but it does have its rewarding side," she writes.

James K. Mann, '71, Boston, is director of nursing at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

Erick M. Davis, '73, Seattle, is senior health care management consultant for Milliman & Robertson, a Seattle-based international firm of actuaries and consultants. He is also a clinical assistant professor at the UW medical and public health schools.

Joel M. Wade, '74, Vashon, is a captain with American Airlines, flying the Seattle-Tokyo route. He is married with two children.

David V. Clarridge, '75, Seattle, is a production accountant for the television show Law and Order.

Jeanette Burrage, '76, '89, Des Moines, was elected to the King County Superior Court in November 1995.

Matthew Cadman, '76, Edmonds, is teaching in the Graduate School of Education for Gonzaga Univ.'s Westside center. He is also a full-time social studies teacher at Jackson High School in Mill Creek.

Duane J. Covey, '76, Seattle, became a limited partner in the Jones Financial Co., a holding company for the St. Louis-based financial services firm.

David D. Horowitz, '77, '81, Seattle, has founded Rose Alley Press. Its first publications are his Strength & Sympathy: Essays and Epigrams and Rain Psalm, a collection of poems by Victoria Ford.

Cory Keller, '77, Renton, is retired after 17 years in the airline industry and owns her own business, C.K. Designs.

David Guterson, '78, '82, Bainbridge Island, received a Guggenheim Fellowship Award for 1996. He is the author of the book Snow Falling on Cedars.

Lynn Bragg Marich, '78, Mercer Island, wrote the book A River Lost, published by Hancock House.

Joao Miguel Santos, '78, Maple Valley, is Boeing's director of sales responsible for Pakistan, Bangladesh and countries in Africa. He was also selected 1995 Officer of the Year for the 13th Naval Reserve Assoc.

Charlie Blackman, '79, Seattle, is a deputy prosecutor for Snohomish County. He reports that his 18-year-old son, Jeremy, was promoted to senior software engineer for ESPN SportZone at Starwave.

Tracy K. Crocker, '79, Scottsdale, Ariz., received a master's in engineering from Arizona State Univ. and works for a consulting firm, doing roadway and traffic design.

Linda Paschal Gingrich, '79, Issaquah, is conductor and artistic director for the Issaquah Chorale. Her first choral composition was published this year.

Liz Mallon Osborne, '79, Seattle, has written her second health care book, Correspondence for the Clinical Practice, co-authored with Neil Baum, and published by Anadem Publishing.

Rebecca Ringhouse, '79, Seattle, has run Rehabilitation Registry since 1985.

1980

Mary Ann Barron, '80, Seattle, is the director of community relations for the Frye Art Museum. She has 12 years experience in public relations for the arts, and lives in Seattle with her husband, Todd Wagner.

Douglas A. Luetjen, '80, Seattle, is a lawyer with Bullivant Houser Bailey Pendergrass & Hoffman. His practice involves general business matters.

David Leo Stefurak, '81, Seattle, is CEO of International Chess Enterprises, which publishes chessbooks and Inside Chess magazine.

Meri Gruber, '81, Palo Alto, Calif., moved to California with her 7-year-old son after living and working in Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Norway and France. She is a manager with Ernst & Young's Management Consulting Practice.

Victor N. Morin, '81, London, moved to England in June as Boeing's manager for advanced quality systems in Europe. He will work with Boeing suppliers from Ireland to Israel.

Bhokayasupatt Vhanthip, '81, Brier, has owned the Thai Siam restaurant in Ballard for nine years. She planned a June wedding to Ronald Blanton.

Jacoby Carter, '82, Lafayette, La., completed his Ph.D. at the Univ. of Massachusetts in wildlife management and works as an ecologist at the National Biological Service's Southern Science Ctr.

Gretchen Goehler, '83, Bellevue, works at Group Health Hospital in Bellevue..

Stan Tosello, '83, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., works for the Latin America Group for Citibank CSG.

Atsuko Brewer, '84, Oakland, Calif., is director of bilingual education for the Oakland Unified School Dist.

Paula Bettano Everts, '84, Fairbanks, Alaska, is supervisor of adoption and permanency planning for the Alaska Div. of Family and Youth Services.

John Hedgcock, '84, '86, Monterey, Calif., was promoted to associate professor in the TESOL/TFL program at the Monterey Inst. of International Studies.

Nancy Isley-Fletcher, '84, Bothell, is a shareholder at Clark & Associates in Bellevue.

Kelli Mettler Bacher, '85, Ashford, was married to Kevin Bacher on March 2, 1996. They plan to move to Florida to work for the National Park Service at Everglades National Park.

Ernie L. Dolan, '85, Seattle, is a test lead at Microsoft, working on worldwide internal applications. He planned to be married in August to Jody Okuma.

Wendy Joseph, '85, Shoreline, is assistant dramaturg of the Seattle Shakespeare Festival.

Richard B. Wong, '85, Redmond, released his first children's album, "The Little Things," under the name Friends of the Family.

David Neubecker, '86, San Francisco, is promotions manager for Electronic Arts and Sports video and computer games.

Jerri Gibson, '87, Colorado Springs, Colo., is a fitness and wellness coordinator at Apple Computers in Fountain, Colo. She is also a personal trainer.

Michael P. Leary, '87, Missoula, Mont., finished a three-year tour of Italy working for the COMFAIRMED staff in Naples. He left the Navy in May and hopes to work for the airlines in Dallas.

Julie Green Lombardo, '87, Seattle, is married with two sons, ages 1 and 4. She is a homemaker.

Jennifer Schumacher, '87, Huntsville, Ala., and James Winchell, '78, '80, '88, were married on May 17, 1996 in Huntsville. She works for the National Children's Advocacy Ctr. and he is an associate professor of French at the Univ. of Alabama, Huntsville.

Gaelle A. Suell, '87, Portland, Ore., is executive director of the NW Regional China Council in Portland. It is one of the nation's largest regional China organizations.

Kirsten Barthel Trusko, '87, Castro Valley, Calif., is region director of new business for Whirlpool Financial Corp. She received her M.B.A. from the Univ. of Phoenix in June.

Cecily Arellanes, '88, Whittier, Calif., celebrated her fifth wedding anniversary on Sept. 1. Her daughter, Maya Linda, is 3. Cecily runs a mentorship program which matches juvenile parolees with attorney volunteers.

Christine Howeiler, '88, former events coordinator at the UWAA, and her husband Jon, '87, announce the birth of their first child, Emma Grace, on April 21, 1996.

Lisa Focht, '88, Durham, N.C., received her master's in international business from the Univ. of South Carolina in 1992. She is manager of pricing and customer reporting at Qualex.

Talcott Franklin , '88, Charlotte, N.C., is an attorney practicing commercial litigation. He works for the firm of Hunton and Williams.

Beth Ann V. Keeler, '88, Silver Spring, Md., was named director of annual giving for Greater Baltimore Medical Ctr. Healthcare.

Dennis Lamb, '88, Seattle, has enjoyed sporadic employment as a teacher of English composition, Greek history and mythology.

Jonathan M. Voegele, '88, Vancouver, Wash., is agency manager of the Vancouver office of the Country Companies Insurance Group.

Katherine Camacho Carr, '89, Seattle, is a fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She also is national vice president of the same group.

Daniel Albert Wright, '89, Albany, Calif., received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the Univ. of California, Berkeley in May.

1990

Luis H. Acuna, '90, Bellingham, was invited by the Chilean government to speak at their First International Seminar on Organic Production & Marketing in Santiago, Chile, last May..

Joseph H. Giese, '90, Ft. Knox, Ky., is commander of F Company at Fort Knox. He resides there with his wife, Sheila Shatell Griese, '90, and his children Alex and Lilith.

Kimberly A.L. Newton, '90, Kirkland, has been a buyer for Boeing Commercial for the past five years. She completed her M.B.A. and married a fellow UW graduate, Wayne Newton, '90, in October 1994.

Chris Hovorka, '91, Newington, Conn., completed his board certification and is a prosthetist-orthotist at Connecticut Children's Medical Ctr. He is now working toward a master's degree in allied health at the Univ. of Connecticut.

Antoinette Lipani, '91, Washington, D.C., is the manager of marketing and communications for North American Vaccine, which is working on securing product approval of a vaccine for whooping cough. She is engaged to be married in October.

Trish Seubert Miranda, '91, Monterey, Calif., married Lt. Jerry Miranda in May 1995. She works as a flight attendant for Reno Airlines and is the command ombudsman for the Navy Post Graduate School in Monterey.

Leigh Rountree, '91, '94, and David Bangs, '86, Kirkland, were to be married on June 8, 1996. Leigh is an environmental engineer at Sverdrup Civil, Inc. David is development manager of the QuillStories and QuillDocument products at Microsoft.

Michelle R. Smrkovsky, '91, Alexandria, Va., is a lieutenant in the Navy, working as an analyst in Washington, D.C. She recently returned from a two-week trip to the Middle East.

Stephanie Ruth Wilburn-Jespersen, '91, Bellevue, was married to Chad Jespersen on April 27. She works in the marketing department of Voice-Tel of Washington.

Donald J. Woo, '91, Cheney, will earn a master of international management degree from Whitworth College this fall.

Kelly Marvin Bickley, '92, and Diane Bickley, '93, announce that Summer Elaine Bickley was born on May 18.

Carolyn A. Brand, '92, Tacoma, is administrator of the Auburn Regional Ctr. for Cancer Care radiation oncology unit. She is also president of the American Assoc. of Medical Dosimetrists.

Roy Chenaur, '92, Auburn, received his J.D. from Seattle Univ. School of Law in May.

Gregory C. Culpepper, '92, Bothell, is a project manager at Microsoft.

Chad Hamblin, '92, Kohoku-Kui, Japan, is an overseas business coordinator and marketing consultant at a Tokyo technology marketing consulting company.

Anna Maria Popovice Huffman, '92, Bothell, and her husband, Jim, welcomed their first child, Ashley Marie Huffman, on May 20.

Michael A. Kanemoto, '92, Kaiserslautern, Germany, has been a satellite system engineer at Kapaun Air Station since June 1995.

Andy Lewis, '92, Ann Arbor, Mich., was married to Ruth Rogers, '95, on May 11. He is a third-year dental student at the Univ. of Michigan.

Colleen Shea Stump, '92, San Francisco, was promoted to associate professor at San Francisco State Univ. She coordinates the Mild/Moderate Disabilities and the Educational Therapy Program for the special education department.

Trisha Rebhuhn Wieber, '92, Bellevue, is marketing specialist for the Prepared Foods Div. at Nichirei Foods America.

Raj S. Johal, '93, Everett, has been in law enforcement for 18 years, and is currently assigned to investigate white collar crime as a Bellevue detective. He and his wife, Nina, have two children.

Rebecca J. Kenney, '93, Seattle, is a training and education coordinator for Seattle City Light.

Dorothy Laidig, '93, Seattle, received her master's in psychology from Seattle Univ. in June.

Scott Pattinson, '93, Seattle, and his wife, Gaylene, are back in Seattle after two years in Missouri and Santa Rosa, Calif. They are expecting their first child in November.

Angela Bushaw, '94, Seattle, is a marketing representative for Vixel Corp.

Barbara Iliff Brotherton, '94, Kalamazoo, Mich., is assistant professor of art history at Western Michigan Univ. She has a research grant to study Tlingit masks.

Peter MacIntyre Bruce, '94, Steilacoom, is program coordinator for a mentally ill students program at Pierce Community College in Lakewood.

Nathan D. Carlson, '94, San Bernardino, Calif., finished his first year at the Loma Linda Univ. School of Medicine. He was elected sophomore class president. He is doing research in urology and will go to Air Force Training School.

Karen C. D'Apolito, '94, Burlington, Ky., is assistant professor in the college of nursing and health at the Univ. of Cincinnati.

Evan Erickson, '94, Charlotte, N.C., is executive vice president of PKP Properties.

Victor (Pete) Holden, '94, Seattle, is general manager of the Loomis Co., a custom plastics manufacturer specializing in injection molding, thermoforming, fabrication and screen printing.

Pat Huntzinger, '94, Seattle, is pursuing a master's in public health in the extended degree program.

Mary L. Myers, '94, San Diego, works for a capacitor manufacturing company. She and Hung Trinh planned to be married in July.

Jason G. Seonl, '94, Columbus, Ohio, graduated with his master's in health administration from Ohio State in June. He will spend a year at Detroit Medical Ctr. as a postgraduate fellow.

Michele D. Walker, '94, Seattle, is a promotion assistant at KZOK-FM. She was also accepted into Seattle Univ.'s School of Law.

Richard E. Wiegand, '94, Bellevue, was elected a fellow in the Society for Technical Communication. He is manager of printing and micrographic services at Boeing Information and Support Services.

Morton Leonard Yanow, '94, Seattle, was elected to serve on the board of directors of the ACLU of Washington. He is president and CEO of Mediate First, Inc.

Tod M. Haggard, '95, Seattle, got engaged in January and is planing a five-month Mexican vacation with his fiancée.

Jennifer M. Jones, '95, Tacoma, completed her first year of law school at the Univ. of Houston.

Brook Michelle, '95, Hansville, appeared on the ABC-TV show Wheel of Fortune in April.

John Nelson, '95, Seattle, is grocery store sales director for Caffe Appassionato.

Andy Rolfs, '95, St. Louis, is a project engineer for HBE Corp. of St. Louis.

Emily Marie Weeks, '95, Edmonds, is pursuing a Ph.D. in art history at Yale. Her specialty is 19th century British art.
