Wendell K. Crane, '35

Bellevue, is a volunteer in the Huskies for Higher Education program and attended a reception at the governor's mansion with UW Regent Dan Evans, '48, '49, and Gov. Gary Locke.

1940

Roy E. Stier, '40

researched his new book, Tamerlane, The Ultimate Warrior (published by Book Partners) at the UW archives and both British and Moscow central libraries.

Patricia Doebbler Erickson, '42

Seattle, retired many years ago from KIRO radio. She was also in the U.S. Marines and a housewife.

Harriet Hanson Foelman, '44

Burlington, left school as a sophomore, was for married 27 years, had "three Husky sons," divorced, received a bachelor's degree, and is presently owner, administrator and counselor of the Foelman Agency of Burlington and Anacortes. It provides outpatient chemical dependency, anger management, domestic violence and smoking cessation programs.

Roberta Baskerville, '45

Thousand Oaks, Calif., is chairperson of the Council on Aging, an advisory body to the Thousand Oaks City Council. She is also an editorial consultant to the seventh edition of a book by her late husband, David Baskerville, '40, Music Business Handbook & Career Guide.

1950

Charles W. Austin, '54, '60, '62

Garden Grove, Calif., joined the Navy in 1955, married Carol Robinson, '58, and set off to see the world on the aircraft carriers USS Boxer and USS Midway. Carol followed him from home port to home port, and was unable to complete her education until the early 1970s at California State Univ., Long Beach. There, Charles spent most of his professional life in various academic ranks and teaching/administrative positions. They have put their four children through college.

Maxine Softky LeBeau, '54

McFadden, Wyo., completed a four-year term on the Wyoming Board of Medicine. Serving with her on the seven-member board was Randal Moseley, '77, '81, a physician in Rock Springs, Wyo. In March, Maxine was appointed by Gov. Jim Geringer to a three-year term on the Commission of Judicial Conduct and Ethics. She and her husband, Gerald, are both retired and live on a family ranch near McFadden.

Richard R. Roach, '55

Vashon, retired from teaching at Marquette Univ. and was appointed pastor of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Vashon on July 1.

Fred Jessett, '56

Sammamish, and his wife, the former Kristen Olson, '59, live in the new city of Sammamish. He recently retired after 36 years in the ministry of the Episcopal Church, and has just completed the commercial fiction track of the UW Extension Program for Writers. His current project is a novel set in Seattle in 1954.

Richard E. McVeigh, '57

Harlingen, Texas, recently met former UW football coach Darrell Royal at a Univ. of Texas fund-raiser on South Padre Island in Texas. "We both wondered where 43 years since our last meeting had gone and how we both enjoyed our time at the UW," he writes.

Paul Green, '58

Pullman, was a Phi Sigma Iota language pedagogy consultant in China in 1997. He reads 14 European languages, has published 28 books and articles, and has two life fellowships.

1960

Mary Louise Irving, '60

Redding, Calif., developed breast cancer and was treated in March 1998. She retired in September 1998 from Shasta Co. Community Mental Health after 29 years as a psychiatric nurse.

Al Wells, '60, '71

Seattle, works at Valley Electric. He is the project manager for the electrical portion of Safeco Field, the new Mariners ballpark.

Barbara Hiscock Stenson, '64

Seattle, joined the public affairs and consumer education staff of the state Office of the Insurance Commissioner as a communications specialist.

Wendy Morgan, '64, '72

SeaTac, has been appointed Northwest representative to the national board of the Older Women's League. She was appointed earlier this year to a position on the Northwest Board of the Anti-Defamation League. She is a resident initiatives coordinator for the King County Housing Authority.

G. Val Tollefson, '64, '73

Bainbridge Island, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a partner in the firm of Danielson Harrigan & Tollefson LLP and has been practicing in Seattle for 25 years.

Alfredo Arreguin, '67, '69

Seattle, was selected to paint Washington state's centennial poster. A world renowned artist, Arreguin has had his works exhibited in shows across North America, Mexico, Europe, Poland, Russia, South America and Asia. One of his paintings is part of the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American Art.

Jerry Richardson, '67

Fargo, N.D., is a professor emeritus of mass communications at North Dakota State Univ. He operates the Ree Heights Institute Press "out of my basement, where I have total freedom of the press."

Linda E. Landis, '68

Brier, reports that her daughter, Marin, became a Husky in the fall. "What a joy it is to revisit the UW through her eyes. For the first time since graduation, I returned to the magical Quad and sat on a stone bench for a part of a morning amid the prolific cherry blossoms," she writes. She is an administrative supervisor for Swedish Medical Ctr. Ballard campus.

Stephen Henderson, '69

Olympia, was elected to the Board of Governors of the Washington State Bar Assoc., representing the Third Congressional District.

1970

R. Mark Allen, '70

Olympia, has been elected president of the national Broadcast Executive Directors Assoc., which represents state broadcaster associations from all 50 states and Puerto Rico. He is president and CEO of the Washington State Broadcasters.

Gaylord Reagan, '70, '71

Omaha, Neb., had his article, "Have You Updated Your KSABs?" accepted for publication in McGraw-Hill/HRD Press' 2000 Sourcebook. He delivered the commencement address and conferred Master of Science Administration degrees at Central Michigan University's Offutt Air Force Base off-campus site. He also is a paper reviewer for the Inst. of Behavioral and Applied Management's annual conference.

Robert D. Welden, '70

Seattle, is the new chair of the American Bar Assoc. Advisory Commission on Lawyers' Funds for Client Protection. He is general counsel for the Washington State Bar Assoc.

Walt R. Snover, '73

Valencia, Calif., is Western U.S. regional manager for Herff Jones Photography. He served as president of the Washington Journalism Education Assoc. from 1975-76. Following 12 years as a soccer coach, journalism teacher and newspaper and yearbook adviser at Enumclaw High School, he joined Herff Jones in 1985.

Arthur Blaser, '74

Orange, Calif., is an associate professor of political science at Chapman Univ., and has published articles in the Orange County Register, Los Angeles Times, Futurist, Human Rights Quarterly, and Journal of Law and Technology. He and his wife, Barbara James, welcomed a daughter, Christan, on March 18, 1998.

Joseph L. Brotherton, '76, '81

Seattle, was appointed chairman of the board of trustees of Cornish College of the Arts. He is a Seattle attorney and CPA.

David D. Horowitz, '77, '81

Seattle, just published his new book of poems, Streetlamp, Treetop, Star, through his own company, Rose Valley Press.

Norman Hein, '78, '83

Olympia, practices dentistry in Olympia. His wife is the office manager and resident day-care manager "since we have a new addition to our family. Stephen A. Hein is a blue-eyed bundle of smiles," he writes. Their two other sons, Christopher and Sean, are attending school in Olympia.

Clarence Moriwaki, '78

Seattle, is media relations specialist for Sound Transit. Previously, he was public relations manager for the Portland Rose Festival, assistant director for the White House Office of Forestry and Economic Development, and deputy communications director for former Gov. Mike Lowry.

Cindy Fein Strauss, '78

Seattle, was named vice president for legal services at Swedish Medical Ctr. She had been associate general counsel for the Sisters of Providence Health System in Seattle for the past 10 years.

Kiran Bhatt, '79

Anaheim, Calif., had her poem, Honesty, selected as a semifinalist in a contest conducted by the International Library of Poetry.

Greg Fellman, '79

Everett, was promoted to business planning manager for the JC Penney Co., Inc., responsible for the children's and family shoe departments in the Seattle district.

Allicyn C. Hikida Tasaka, '79

Honolulu, is the newly appointed executive director of the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women.

1980

John J. White Jr., '80, '83,

Kirkland, has been named a partner in the Kirkland law firm of Livengood, Carter, Tjossem, Fitzgerald & Alskog. His practice focuses on business transactions, federal income and estate tax, wills and probate.

Kevin N. Hansen, '82

Seattle, has been promoted to vice president-investments at Salomon Smith Barney in Seattle. He is also on the Board of Trustees of the UWAA Big "W" Alumni Club and is chairman of the 1999 Husky Hall of Fame selection committee.

Keith W. Holman, '83

Arlington, Va., has become the chief regulatory counsel for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. He advises the chamber on national regulatory issues involving energy, technology, legal affairs, agriculture and the environment.

Todd Tarbert, '84, '88

Bellevue, was promoted to president and CEO of Destinations.com, a Seattle-based company providing voice- and Web-based leisure travel reservations services for convention and visitors bureaus and other destination-marketing organizations. He formerly served on the UWAA Board of Trustees.

Michael V. Ward, '84, '94

Seattle, formed a partnership, Acme Holdings, in 1996, which provides international project finance.

Lynne Almvig, '86

Sedro Woolley, is robotics milling supervisor at U.S. Marine/Bayliner. She is responsible for milling machine operators and producing marine quality tooling.

Jason Craig, '86

Mercer Island, is a real estate development manager for Microsoft. He and his wife, Gina, live in the Laurelhurst area. An avid Husky football fan, he enjoys attending games with alumni members of his fraternity, Betha Theta Pi.

Bryan Estep, '86

Arroyo Grande, Calif., is a co-author of Chile Guide, published by Open Road Publishing.

Colette A. Frayne, '86

San Luis Obispo, Calif., was named a 1998-99 Distinguished Teacher by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She teaches courses in international business management and international human resource management.

Karen A. Porter, '86

Tacoma, completed an M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology at the Univ. of Rochester. She conducted extensive field research in the South Pare Mountains of Tanzania. After working briefly as the folklorist of Rochester's arts and cultural council, she accepted a tenure-line position in the Dept. of Comparative Sociology at the Univ. of Puget Sound in the fall of 1998.

Diane Schott, '87

Renton, graduated from Eastern Washington Univ. in March with a master's degree in communication disorders. She is a speech language pathologist for the Seattle School Dist.

Dennis P. Weston, '87

Redmond, was promoted to managing director of Fluke Venture Partners, a venture capital operation of Fluke Capital Management.

Daniel Good, '88

Kenmore, and his wife, Vicki, welcomed their first child, Meagan Elizabeth, on Jan. 1.

Valerie A. Simpson Leon, '88

Lahaina, Hawaii, has been married for three years to Richard Leon. They are expecting their first child in October. They have lived on Maui for nine years.

Richard London, '88

Washington, D.C., just accepted the position of medical officer for the U.S. Peace Corps in Bangladesh. He previously worked as the medical officer in Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mongolia and Morocco.

Kari Anna Lanser, '89

Seattle, studied architecture in Italy for six months after graduation. She worked eight years for an architectural firm, was married in 1994 to Gordon R. Lanser, and in 1997, they welcomed their first child, Alexander John Lanser. A second child is due in October. She works part-time for an architectural firm and in her spare time, is designing a home to be built in Los Altos Hills, Calif.

1990

Tim Sayers, '90

Redmond, and his wife, Jan, '92, welcomed their first child, Benjamin Cole, on Feb. 9.

Brian Finnegan, '91

Mount Vernon, started a commercial real estate company, WestLom Properties, in Bellingham. It is in its fourth year of operation.

Allyson Brown, '92

Indianola, married Greg McNutt in June 1998. She is marketing manager for Starbucks ice cream.

Melissa A. York, '92

Renton, has been awarded a James Madison Fellowship to support further study of American history. She is a teacher at Tyee High School in SeaTac.

Paul Cheatham, '93

Huntsville, Ala., is employed by the Intergraph Corp. in Huntsville, Ala., as a senior applications engineer. He and his wife, Heather, have two cats, Tigger and Boo-Boo, and a dog, Lucas. "Go Dawgs, from the land of the SEC!" he writes.

Seattle, received her master's degree in technical communication from the UW in June.

Candido Trujillo, '93

Silverdale, completed master's and doctorate degrees in human development from the Fielding Inst. He now teaches in the master's program for organizational design and effectiveness and has a private personal development practice.

William Ziegwied, '93

Jupiter, Fla., joined the Navy after graduating from the UW with his degree in mechanical engineering. He spent four years in the Navy as the missiles officer aboard the USS Ingersoll. Upon leaving the Navy in 1998, he went to work for Pratt & Whitney's Large Military Engines Division in Florida.

Katherine L. Alba, '94

San Francisco, was accepted into the San Francisco Fire Dept. after waiting 2 1/2 years.

Kathryn A. McNamara Cowden, '94

Walnut Creek, Calif., has been married to Mike Cowden, '90, for five years. They are expecting their first child in January.

Andrea R. Snyder Dunn, '94

Oregon City, Ore., was married to Joel F. Dunn on Dec. 19, 1998, in Oregon City. She is a seventh-grade teacher at Waluga Junior High School in Lake Oswego. Her husband is a high school teacher in Canby.

Luis Noriega, '94

Dallas, is in his fifth year working for BankOne, serving as country manager for markets in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

Paul D. Thimons, '94

Everett, graduated from California Western School of Law in San Diego in April. He relocated to Washington with his wife, who is a 1995 alumnus of UW Bothell.

Christopher Landon, '95

San Francisco, was promoted to manager at Deloitte & Touche, is engaged to Jennifer Thrasher of Longview, Texas, and makes frequent trips to Seattle.

Jeffrey Towne, '95

Princeton, N.J., received his master's of divinity degree from the Princeton Theological Seminary in May.

Coreen Nickerson, '96

Seattle, was married in 1998 and is expecting a child this year. She works at VoiceStream Wireless in Bellevue.

Richard Niebusch, '96

Bellevue, completed his master's of science degree in organizational development at Central Washington Univ. He works for the Des Moines Police Dept. as vice crimes detective.

Andrea Roth, '96

Redmond, completed her M.A. in communication studies at the Univ. of Montana in August 1998. She is currently working at the UW School of Medicine in Continuing Medical Education and taking courses in preparation for applying to the pharmacy program at the Univ. of Montana.

Eric J. Fisher, '97

Redmond, is a contract worker at Microsoft. He previously worked at Eddie Bauer in Bothell.

Melissa Lehman, '97

Bothell, is a programmer analyst at Fluke Corp. in Everett. She and Jeff Cornwell, '97, were to be married in Seattle this summer.

Joyia S. Rubens, '97

Bremerton, is an insurance agent, licensed in property, casualty, life and disability. Her fourth child is graduating from the UW in the spring.

Sean A. Singer, '97

Groton, Conn., recently graduated from the Navy's Submarine Officer Basic Course.

David Lynn Sisson, '97

Tacoma, is looking at different graduate schools and programs and plans to return to school to continue his education in the next two or three years.

Susan N. DiGrazia, '98

Reno, Nev., is finishing her first year of medical school at the Univ. of Nevada School of Medicine.

Millie Hiibel, '98

Sparks, Nev., was accepted into the M.F.A. program in theatrical design at Temple Univ. She was granted a full-tuition scholarship, along with a future faculty fellowship, one of Temple's most prestigious honors.

Melissa Mitchell, '98

Everett, is a member of the Redmond Chamber of Commerce. She also volunteered to be the treasurer of her sorority's corporation board. She works for Pacific Capital, doing financial planning.

Rosalys Martinez Peel, '98

Bainbridge Island, is a childbirth educator at Swedish Medical Ctr. in Seattle. She is also a registered nurse.

Carrie L. Pickett, '98

Tacoma, works for Pacific Harbors Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where she sets up high school youth with internships in their communities.

Kellie Port, '98

Lynnwood, has gone from being a welfare recipient and food bank client to working full time at the Fremont Public Assoc. in the food resources program. She helps staff the Coalition of Seattle food banks. "I am very happy to serve the community that helped me and my family when we needed it," she writes.

Phyllis Simon, '98

Bloomington, Ind., relocated to Indiana to receive her master's degree from Indiana Univ.'s School of Library and Information Science.

Tonya Surface, '98

Seattle, started a partnership called TN'T Productions after graduation with Theo Davis, '98. It is a swing dancing business, and they teach and perform the Lindy Hop all over the Northwest. Theo started the Swing Kids Club at the UW.

Minh Tran, '98

Portland, is working throughout the West Coast as a choreographer, performer, producer and educator. He will present a dance concert at Portland State Univ. this month and will serve as a guest lecturer at the UW this fall, teaching modern dance, world dance and culture.

Eleni Vlachos, '98

Seattle, is working as a human resources manager for Pioneer Human Services.
